About the Author
Jenni Currie Santamaria has been teaching English as a Second Language for twenty years at the adult and college level. She has numerous publications, including two multi-skill textbooks, teachers' guides, and a variety of interactive activities and workbook exercises for English learners. She is currently an ESL instructor and mentor teacher at ABC Adult School in Cerritos, California.
Jayme Adelson-Goldstein, co-author of The Oxford Picture Dictionary is an adult education ESL teacher, curriculum consultant, and certified teacher trainer. She has given professional development workshops for adult education instructors throughout the United States on topics such as
student-centered instruction, ESL techniques and multilevel instruction.

Good Resource

This book is making my life so much easier. We usually teach level 3, and we had books and other resources all prepared to teach level 3, but when classes started only one student tested for level 3 and 50 tested for level 1 and level 2. So we combined level 3 and level 4 and split up the level 1 and 2 students. In our class we had three people from Afghanistan with 25 Salvadorans. The Salvadorans at least were familiar with the alphabet and knew a few phrases. The Afghans didn't know anything. During classes they were quiet. We suspected that they were feeling left out so we split them up. Now I am teaching the three Afghans starting basically from the very beginning. I cried all night thinking how hard this was going to be, but this book has helped me so much.
The lessons are very simple. Its starts with the alphabet and numbers and simple greetings. Then it moves on very slowly into the verb "to be" and other introductory level material. It has a companion CD that I use in class and that the students can use at home. The only thing lacking is tons and tons of repetition which is the only shortfall of the book, and truth be told, it is unreasonable to expect a book like this to include the tons and tons of drilling and repetition and practice that is needed. As an instructor I love this book. I pray that the students are getting a lot out of it too.

Good beginning step ...

Very easy to follow and repetitive ... my student has been very engaged with this workbook and looks forward to progressing in this series.
