A solid starting point

I picked up this book as my introduction to the world of composites. I was more interested in making motorcycle parts and bodywork, but all the information applies just the same. I found it really easy to follow & understand, everything is explained clearly with lots of pictures and diagrams to help.
Probably the best thing about this book is that it actually lays out the very first couple of "experiments" to get someone started using composites. Simply follow the directions in the book and before you know it you've taken your first steps and suddenly things start to make sense. Without those step by step instructions it is quite a daunting task - you have no idea where or how to start.
For more advanced techniques or specific info the internet is a great source these days, but for a complete beginner I'd still recommend this book to give a solid foundation and help a person get started.

I like this book!

This is a practical guide. Takes you from chopped strand mat to advanced fibers. Stresses experiment and test method to teach yourself about composites and mold making. Has pretty good pictures and practical advise. You really are not going to learn about doing composites unless you get your hands dirty doing it. The only other good source to do this is to work for a race car builder. This is one of the better books on the subject. What more can you ask for.

Good intro to advanced composites

There aren't too many good books on the fabrication and repair of structures that use high modulus fibers like Carbon and Kevlar, modern core materials, and high performance resins. While this British title "goes on a bit" and is not for the illiterate, it does an excellent job of walking you through the process of building and repairing parts that would not be out of place on any track in the country. It will also be useful to airplane and boat builders.
