The requirements of cloud computing have far-reaching implications for software engineering. Applications must be built to provide flexible and elastic services, and designed to consume functionality delivered remotely across of spectrum of reliable, and unreliable, sources. Architects need to consider the impact of scalability and multi-tenancy in terms of: » New development tools » Internet-based delivery and mobile devices » Identity federation » Fragmented services and providers » Exploding information volume » Availability and elasticity techniques » New business models and monetization strategies » Revised software development cycle » Increased operational automation This book looks at these and other areas where the advent of cloud computing has the opportunity to influence the architecture of software applications.

Excellent book, but index is close to useless
By B. R. Snyder
I'm a relatively tech-y person trying to get a handle on cloud computing. I have found this book very easy to read, clearly organized, and very practical. My main gripe with it is the index. I rely heavily on a book's index, both to find something I read before and to get an overview of the various topics a book covers. The index for this book is only three pages, and is very superficial. It often lists many pages for a topic without breaking them out into subtopics. I get more use out of the table of contents than I do from the index; because the book is well organized, I can generally find what I'm looking for. But not always. For example, in my reading I came across the term shared-nothing. I understood the discussion, but later on I realized I had forgotten what it meant. Sadly, the term shared-nothing was not in the index. Since I knew the realm in which the term applied, I was able to look up a few topics in the TOC, one of which led me to the term. Any time a term is introduced in quotes, as this one was, it's clearly relevant to the discussion, and should be find-able again. I am pondering returning this version and getting the kindle one. At least then, I could search for any term I wanted to. My advice to readers: keep your post-it notes handy as you read this book. My advice to the publisher: hire a professional indexer for the next edition.

Very nicely written
By V Bansal
The author has approached the topic very intelligently, top-down first and then delving into every aspect of cloud computing in detail. Each topic is treated with utmost thoroughness in terms of possibilities, limitations, advantages and benefits and above all what one must anticipate. I am amazed at the knowledge of the author. I started reading the book end to end, then jumped to the topics I was interested in. Great book for anyone trying to get an understanding of how to architect a cloud.

Worth reading for architects
By A. Bhatnagar
I am a novice in Cloud Computing and I thought I have a decent understanding of cloud computing. After reading this book, I found how much more is there in cloud computing space. I am still reading and I have liked it so far. The author talks at architectural level (as the title says) and is good for anyone new to this area. I like that this book is clarifying my concepts and telling what all is available to explore. If you are looking for details on how to implement solutions using AWS, Azure, App Engine then this book is not for you.
I got this book quite late (10-15 days) with no shipping information published on Amazon. I wish the seller can expedite the delivery of books.
