How to Survive a Mistress

I thoroughly enjoyed this series. I read Message From A Mistress earlier in the year and couldn't wait for the follow up to have the question "Who was the dirty dog?" answered. The author showed the growth of Rene,Aria, and Jaime after Jessa's betrayal. They all reached bottom and found their way back through the love and support of friends. Rene was able to deal with her drinking only after she made the decision that she would have to let the love of her life go and that her children deserved to have her whole. Aria had to forgive herself in order to save her marriage to Kingston and Jaime needed to define who she was and not rely on others' perceptions of who she should be. If there was anything that I would have liked the author to delve into a bit more it would have been how Jessa spiraled out of control after the death of her husband. How deep her pain must have been to betray those that were there for her during her grief. Jackson irritated me to no end in MFAM, but I was kinda pulling for him in this book. Hoping that he could find a way put his family back together. The story of Jackson & Rene after the dusts settles is begging to be told. How do they survive another mistress(Jackson's)? Well done Ms. Bryant!

EXCELLENT

I PRE-ORDERED THIS BOOK BACK IN FEBRUARY AND HAD BEEN WAITING DEPSERATELY FOR IT'S RELEASE SINCE LAST YEAR. I STARTED AND FINISHED THE BOOK YESTERDAY BECAUSE I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. I THOUGHT MESSAGE FROM A MISTRESS WAS GOOD, BUT THIS ONE TOPPED IT. THE EMOTIONS PORTRAYED IN THIS BOOK WERE PHENOMENAL. I LOVED ALL THE TWISTS AND TURNS AND WAS WONDERING WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT AFTER EVERY PAGE. ALTHOUGH, I WOULD HAVE LIKED IT TO BE A LITTLE LONGER AND TO KNOW A BIT MORE ABOUT THE FUTURES OF EACH OF THE CHARACTERS I WAS CERTAINLY NOT DISAPPOINTED. WELL DONE.

Much like the first one...

This book dragged on as much as the first book. This book takes place over months instead of a day like the first one did and thankfully it lacks the 50 million flashbacks that the first book contained. We learn which husband Jessa was having the affair with about half way through, but it was a husband I didn't really care about so I actually wanted it to be him so the other two couples could work on their marriages. We all knew the wives' secrets were gonna come out eventually so there wasn't much suspense when they finally did. There wasn't any closure at the end. This book left a lot of unanswered questions. I wish there had been an epilogue that told what happened a few months or so after everything that happened at the end. Trying not to include any spoilers but we really didn't learn anything we didn't know in the first book other than which husband Jessa "stole". I don't feel like this book was necessary at all and instead of dragging out the first book so much, the information in this book should have been included in the first one. I do like how Niobia Bryant is one of the few authors who can have different characters in the same book without them all feeling like the same character with a different name, but this book should have been filled with way more drama so that's why I'm giving it 3 stars.
