Introduce young readers to the wonders of the forest.

Here's a well constructed board book that gives a nice overview of what you'll discover when you explore a forest. The authors cover different types of trees with illustrations of leaf structures, plants you'll find on the forest floor, plus insects and animals that make this environment their home.
Perhaps the most unique feature of this book are the transparent pages that show how the forest changes from summer to winter, what the woods look like after trees are cut, and what type of little critters are hiding under the soil on the forest floor.
I'd recommend using this book to introduce young children (preschool to first grade) to what they would encounter on a visit to the forest. This will open the door to more discussion and even some interesting projects.
