Nicely done.

This is my first book by Wendy Vella and I have to say I quite enjoyed this book. No spoilers here...

This was a fast paced romance with a good amount of suspense, romance and an evil villain or two. A couple good twist and turns also. Patience Allender and Lord Mathew Belmont had a long journey to get to their happy ever after. At some points I wondered if they would get there. The past and the present was their enemy. Patience was her/their enemy at times too. Both of them had to let go of the past to have any hope of a future together. What a lovely journey it was. Well after you got past the attempted murders, kidnapping and such.

I loved the Allender family. Patience was the oldest sibling and the leader of the bunch. I will admit at times she was a bit too stubborn and drove me nuts. Boy could that girl hold a grudge and she was super independent. Not always in a good way. I wanted to shake her few times and tell her it was ok to ask for help. She and her family really needed it. Lucy was the middle sister and Charles was youngest. I enjoyed seeing those three interacting. I particularly loved the fencing scene. Great scene with all three of together having fun. It wasn't often they could let their guards down and just have a little fun.

Enjoyable book. 4 stars for me!

THIS IS A WINNER!

Thank You Wendy Vella! In my opinion, this is your best book to date! You have really blossomed! Being a serious romance follower, I have noticed sometimes the plots can be repetitive. Well, this one is unique! It is part of a series, but can be read as a stand alone book! As in all your books, there is a strong, independent female, a SEXY,HOT,MAN!, but lots of different twists and turns. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, SURPRISE! I especially loved the interplay between the heroine and her siblings but I don't want to spoil it by saying too much. THIS IS A WINNER!

Decent Plot, but characters could use some work.

The book has a plot that didn't make me snooze but the characters really need better development. I didn't buy that the hero of the story was so torn up over his adult brothers death that he suddenly became a over all different person.

The leading lady's story could have been played further into seeing as hers was the backdrop for 99% of the plot. But we learn more about his rich mommy's trinkets than the main character's back story.

At one point during the book I almost walked away. When the hero after saving the leading lady's life, decided to very suddenly wrap up his "grieving" (aka his cause for moodiness, randomly grabbing his chest, and being an A-hole for half his life) by visiting his dead brothers bedroom and moving a portrait of said dead brother back to "wear it belongs".
The emotion and needless cheesy speeches, that lasted a full chapter, where just to much for me. I kept hearing them speaking in false Southern accents, despite the fact they are suppose to be British.

I think the book had potential, but instead focusing on the interesting parts, the whole book felt spread thin.

Simple and easy cooking, delicious results!

I live in Italy now, and honestly, her tips make me a better cook than many of the restaurants and native Italians that I've found here. This particular book is filled with simple recipes. Not too many ingredients, nothing too fancy. No quail eggs and golden raisins, nothing that takes way too long. I think for a few of her soups, she recommends making broth one day and then freezing it. Most of her recipes can be prepared in 20mins-1 hr, and for fancier food, give it a couple of hours of slow cooking. Everything is delicious.

The one downside that I've found is that sometimes I feel that she doesn't advise about how much spice to put onto something. That's fine, though. All the recipes I've tried (roast chicken, chicken cacciatore, a lot of pasta sauces, fish recipes, stuffed squid, multiple risottos, vegetable dishes...) have come out delicious. Well done!

The Essential Italian Cookbook

Marcella Hazan is to Italian what Julia Child is to French: The person who introduced American cooks to a cuisine, and in so doing changed how we ate. This book is essential: both essential to anyone who wants to cook authentic Italian, and essentially Marcella.
This book has many virtues. It's very thorough -- a comprehensive survey of the various courses and food groups. There are dedicated chapters for pasta and risotto, for example, where many books treat those together. And in addition to the obvious meats, such as veal, lamb, beef, pork, etc., she also tackles subjects such as rabbit and variety meats. (Use Amazon's "Look inside" feature to see the table of contents.)
Another virtue is the trouble she takes to explain ingredients, be they classic italian ingredients or simply the italian perspective on something. After reading through the Fundamentals chapter, you'll never shop for italian-style ingredients quite the same way ever again. In short, very accessible paragraphs, she goes through the history, regional origins, and uses for the major herbs, cheeses, meats, etc. She covers what to look for when buying an ingredient -- what's fresh, what packaging makes for the best product.
The recipies are very workable and give generally excellent results. The techniques are accessible to anyone who can saute on a stovetop -- anyone who's beyond the stage of rank beginner. The instructions are very clear and strike the right balance, with enough information to give clarity without drowning the reader in detail. (There are few things more infuriating than standing over a cookbook, dripping spoon in hand, reading through War and Peace to figure out what to do next.)
Last, but not least, the results are delicious, with subtle flavors that will please you and yours. Two of my favorites will give you a taste. The Pasta with Peas, Bacon, and Ricotta combines very simple ingredients -- pancetta, mild, smooth, ricotta cheese, parmesan, and fresh peas, into a sublime dish that you can throw together for summer dinners in half an hour from start to finish. On the other hand, the Stewed Pork with Porcini Mushrooms and Juniper makes a wonderful winter meal, as the wild tastes of the porcini and the bite of juniper berries combine wonderfully to flavor the pork. This is one I catch my husband eating cold out of the fridge late at night!

Important note: This edition is not a brand-new book. Instead, it combines two previous books, The Classic Italian Cook Book (1973) and More Classic Italian Cooking (1976), into one volume. There are a couple dozen new recipies, and the older recipies are updated to reduce fats. If you own those, you may want this one. If you are new to Marcella and are accumulating her books, this one book enables you to skip the two older ones.

This is a reprint of Marcella's original book from the 1970s. The recipes are presented in a no frills instruction manual format. No pictures. The quantity and quality of the recipes is amazing. I have many Italian cookbooks and this one is my "Bible".

About the Author

Bob DuCharme (http://www.snee.com/bob) is a solutions architect at TopQuadrant, a provider of software for modeling, developing, and deploying semantic web applications. He came to TopQuadrant from Innodata Isogen, where he did system and architecture analysis and design for a wide range of global publishing clients as well as cochairing the 2008 Linked Data Planet conference in New York City. Earlier in his career, he oversaw SGML and XML development at Moody's Investors Service and then moved on to LexisNexis, where he did data and systems architecture as they made the transition to XML-based systems.In the XML.com newsletter, editor Kendall Clark once wrote “Does anyone write tech prose as clear as Bob?” Bob is the author of Manning Publications’ “XSLT Quickly,” Prentice Hall’s “XML: The Annotated Specification” and “SGML CD,” and McGraw Hill’s “Operating Systems Handbook.” He's written over 70 pieces for XML.com and has contributed to Dr. Dobb’s Journal, IBM developerWorks, Nodalities, DevX, perl.com, XML Magazine, XML Journal, XML Developer, O’Reilly Books’ “XML Hacks,” and Prentice Hall’s “XML Handbook.” Bob received his BA in Religion fromColumbia University and his Master’s in Computer Science from New York University. Details, details, no principles.

I bought this book by mistake, having confused Sparql with Spark SQL. Of course, no mentioning of that similarity is in the book, because the attitude of the author is that you must know better, and if not its your problem. Since I have bought it, I decided to get familiar with the subject. But here again same problem. The author does not try explain any basic ideas or principles. Having written a couple of meaningless for me lines as "explanation", he immediately pass to technical details. Thats what this book is all about: details without general principles. It may be useful for professionals, but it is useless as an introduction. So I put 3 stars, because the details may be good for somebody who needs them, but for me this book is useless.

It is excellent for the learning process as well as a reference book supporting daily operations. Anyone working with W3C semantic technologies wil probably find this a very useful resource.

About the Author
Roger Lancelyn Green was born in 1918 and lived in Oxford and at his family home in Cheshire, which the Greens had owned for more than 900 years. He loved storytelling and was fascinated by traditional fairy tales, myths and legends from around the world. He was a professional actor, a librarian and a teacher. His retellings include Egyptian, Greek and Norse legends, plus a retelling of Robin Hood. He also wrote many books for adults, including a biography of his friend C. S. Lewis, creator of the The Chronicles of Narnia. Roger Lancelyn Green died in 1987.

The Tale of Troy for adults and kids!

The Iliad and Odyssey were written around 2,700 years ago. At that time they were not written down but memorized! With the Iliad having over 15,000 lines and the Odyssey over 12,000 there are not many of us, yes even us adults, who would want to read all that let alone memorize it!

This rendition by Roger which includes both stories from the Iliad and Odyssey was originally penned by him in 1958. It is brilliant! I read this aloud to our children as we have been studying Ancient Greece these past two weeks so felt this would be a good book to include in our study and I am SO glad we did. They loved it and I learned a lot also so we are all a little more educated now!

There are a few sketches/drawings scattered throughout the book but I am not sure what they really added. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This is a good book for kids (like my son) who love action and adventure stories. It is wonderfully adapted for a younger audience by Roger Lancelyn Green, and gives kids a good basic understanding of the ancient myths that so influence modern cartoons in terms of good and evil.
