Teach yourself french

I'm using this book with the app,I'm really learning french with both.I checked out a few french apps ,this one seems to be effective though I'm only at beginner legal!

I am sure there are good teach yourself courses, but this is not one of them!

Having worked in France for an English company, I already had a grasp of a few basic phrases. My work colleagues were all British, so I had not picked up as much French as I had hoped. I am working in France again soon and thought this course would be useful. I was very dissapointed. There are two problems. In each lesson, new vocabulary and grammar are introduced on the CD out of sync with the page on the book. I was forced to keep replaying the CD while I caught up in the book. The other problem is when the CD asks you to say something then listen to how it is spoken by a French speaker. The pause to allow you to think then speak is about half a second! I eventually completed the first lesson and started the second, but I became so frustrated that I dumped the book and CD's in a drawer never to be seen again.

A real treat, well done

David Todd pulls off the difficult task of getting people to talk about themselves and their work while not getting in the way. It's great to read interviews with the likes of modern guitar explorers including Richard Thompson, Bob Mould, Tom Verlaine, and my favorite, Keith Levene.

Some of the discussion focus on the playing, others on events and circumstances, but all are interesting. Todd steers the discussions well.

There's not a whole lot of gear-head nuts-and-bolts details; what you get is insight into how some musical pioneers think about their craft.

Conversations with Guitar Antiheroes

This book is a must-read for guitarists and music lovers who feel alienated by the gear and technique fetish of most guitar-related publications. It's a series of thoughtful, extended interviews with a idiosyncratic guitars from the proto-punk (Lenny Kaye, Wayne Kramer), art-punk (Tom Verlaine!, Lee Ranaldo), no-wave, post-punk (Johnny Marr!), and sui generis (Richard Thompson!) traditions. If you are interested in strange, noisy, sometimes lovely guitar sounds made in deliberate opposition to the blues-rock guitar hero tradition, you will likely find something interesting in this book. It should be sufficient just to list a few more names, with exclamation points: Bob Mould! J. Mascis! Both Kim and Kelley Deal! Michio Kurihara! Michael Rother! I also learned about several musicians I've not heard but whose interviews make me curious enough to seek out. Very little in the way of gear or technique discussion, but Mr. Todd is a very well-informed interviewer, much like Simon Reynolds. Even if you're not a guitar obsessive, this goes well on a bookshelf next to Our Band Could Be Your Life and Reynolds' book of post-punk interviews. Wishful thinking, but I'd love to see a second volume (might I suggest Carrie Brownstein, Nels Cline, Johnny Greenwood?)

Blah, a guitarist book. It probably consists of the same people repeating the same stuff over again, and photos of them in macho poses....well, NOT THIS ONE. This is a set of interviews with 26 guitarists who are making their own rules; of both genders. Unique, insightful and deep.

My forth book by Foster

I put off buying this because, really, I've read a ton of non-dual books and, even though I am aware that non-duality is my path, reading about it is getting to be same-ole-same-ole. As I began reading this one, I thought I had probably wasted my money: "Yeah, I know that. Yeah, yeah. More of the same." But after a few pages, I realized that something that I couldn't define was shifting inside of me. Aha! Jeff was getting past my brain and speaking to my heart. This book IS different. Or perhaps it's effect has more to do with where I'm at than the words. Most likely, it is a combination of both. Anyway... I'm going to reread my other Foster books, for sure.

I have adored reading this book, over and over. It is like sinking deeply into your own joyful and bleeding heart. Its purity. Kindness. Eloquence. Comforting and real. It came at a perfect time in my life and has truly nourished me. It has challenged thoughts, torn at my vulnerability and comforted my aching. It should be recommended to anyone who is willing to be open to see what truly lies within. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have and can recommend it to others who have a desire to recognize what is already here. And its just beautiful poetry.
