A Page Turner With Just The Right Touch Of Romance

Loved this book. I was hooked from the first paragraph when Kate comes home and finds that her apartment has been broken into and many of her things stolen. The book then becomes an adrenalin driven series of unexpected twists and turns as Kate and Axel (her private detective) follow a series of clues found in a strange place, a cookbook.The fast pace is broken up by nostalgic flashbacks to Kate’s grandmother’s kitchen, the meals they ate and the love that was shown.
What I liked most was the character development (- with Kate seeming weak in the beginning but becoming a strong woman in the end) and references to historical/cultural facts. Would recommend this to anyone looking for an interesting and fun book to read on the beach.

Follows the recipe but needs more spice and sugar

I see some really good bones here, this could be a very cute cozy with some depth. The product description calls this a "romantic/thriller" and the cover and title says "cozy" but it's not quite there - not enough quirk, not enough sass in the heroine for that to fit properly. Others may like it better but to me it seems like it would have benefited from a proper edit in order to weed out the weak spots in the writing (some paragraphs read more like authors' notes) and to flesh out some characters that could be great. I wish we could see more of the grandmother. And recipes;-)

simple answer

We hear the word communism so often from the time of our childhood. In a majority of cases the definition is connected with the Soviet Union. It has a lot of emotional connotations for those of us who grew up in the Cold War. But if we honestly ask, "What does this word mean?" most of us would not really be able to give an answer. Mark Sandle gives us an answer: When, how, and why communism was born, was it ever really achieved, and is it a dead philosophy? It is a plain, direct, and simple book free of prejudice.

Good financial advice for Christian couples

The copy I have is a pre-release copy, which as I understand it has no strings attached. Larry Burkette wrote this book a few years ago. This is a re-publication of his work.

Starting Out Right by Larry Burkett is a book about finances and how they can be handled by young married couples to avoid financial problems in marriage. He wrote a number of books about money management and its application to Christian living that are similar to Dave Ramsey’s writing.

I use one of his other books in my ministry (Your Finances In Changing Times), which has been helpful to my people in their lives for those who apply the principles he teaches there. I believe this book will help those who use his good advice in their finances.

I like this book; Burkett’s money matters advice is very good. I strongly recommend this book.

Excellent Text and Reference for Nutritionists and Physicians

Using this college text for an advanced high school course on Nutrition. We calculated nutritional needs (calories and food choices) for the average student, the athlete, the person who needs to improve his diet, restrict calories, decrease fats, and we have been able to do extensive food label analysis using this book. Do you read and understand food labels? Understand RDA? This is a very good textbook, and my parent wants to keep it as a reference, because it contains information to be able to calculate caloric needs, explain food groups, and link to all current government nutrition websites, such as Choose My Plate.gov. She will be able to explain nutritional needs to her patients and their parents.
A new edition is coming out this year, but this book is still current, and written by college nutrition professors.

Downright painful to use as an e-book

The design of the ebook is almost unusable. It is a pain to use, as Kindle for PC and Kindle for Android struggle to flip pages or even do searches for keywords. I tried one of my e-physics books on kindle from a different publisher and I was able to flip pages and search keywords effortlessly, so it's due to the weird restraints/design that Wiley put on the material.

Solid textbook for nutrition class

I really enjoyed reading this textbook. It was thorough enough that I fully understood the concepts, but also succinct. I really can't stand authors that go off on long tangents. This textbook was very clear and easy to read. Loved the way it highlighted all the important terms and had very clear paragraph headers so I knew exactly what to read when studying. I know this is an older edition, but as far as I can tell the updated edition only makes changes to the sections on the updated food pyramid/myplate stuff. I used this older (and cheaper) version and had no problems in class.

This book is straight fire. It is relentless in critiquing the flaws of mainstream, universal feminism. You will laugh. You will cry. You will think, "Holy S*** did she just say that?!"

In one chapter, she directly addresses her male readers (myself included), where she basically writes, "You are not my f***ing problem." I love it!

Great read. Highly recommend. And REMEMBER: This is a radical feminist's critique on mainstream feminism, NOT a rightwing attack on feminism. This book is not for you if you are conservative and want a conservative attack on feminism. (Though I encourage you to still read it to see where there are commonalities, and where we might be able to unite)

Matthew H. Bruce, Emeritus Professor of Science Education, Temple University. Professor Bruce holds the Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University. Following military service in the Korean War, he taught schools and at the university level for over forty-five years, teaching physics and math and serving as a district coordinator for science and mathematics. He spent much of his time working with intending teachers, including over twenty- five years as a faculty member in Temple University s Intern Teaching Program for College Graduates. He conducted research and has written extensively about this aspect of teacher preparation. He has participated in the obtaining and operation of numerous grant-supported programs aimed at the improvement of teacher education, serving as Principal Investigator and in other roles, and has also participated in teacher education endeavors in Europe and Asia. He also served as a consultant to many educational and governmental agencies, ranging from State Education Departments to the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia to the U.S. Department of Defense. He prefers thinking of himself as a teacher whose academic background is in science rather than as a scientist who also teaches.

H. Bernard Miller, Emeritus Director of the Intern Teaching Program for College Graduates, Temple University. Following WWII military service with the Third Infantry Division, Professor Miller completed the teacher education program at Temple University. He taught in a Philadelphia inner city school where he became department chair. Among his duties he worked with newly appointed teachers. He was subsequently invited to join the faculty of Temple University s Intern Teaching Program. He became Director of this award-winning program, serving for more than twenty years. Under his leadership the program became widely known, participating in the Peace Corps Returnee Teacher Program, and receiving a number of State and U.S. Office of Education OERI Teacher Mid-Career Training Grants providing for business, industry and military personnel to enter secondary teaching in urban areas. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania awarded Dr. Miller its first Certificate of Recognition in appreciation for his contributions to The Pennsylvania Teacher Intern Program. He holds his Doctorate from Temple University.
